Tips for Planning the Perfect First Date at a Sushi Restaurant

Last updated 5 years ago

If you want to have a fun and romantic first date, then a sushi restaurant is a great choice. Bringing your date to a sushi restaurant allows you to explore culinary adventures together over a delicious meal.

  • Knowing What to Order and Eat

If this will be your first experience with sushi, then it may be helpful to do some research ahead of time. Learn about the different types of sushi available, as well as the different sushi condiments. Knowing what to expect can keep you from making embarrassing mistakes, such as putting too much wasabi on your sushi roll when you are not a fan of spicy foods. Look into each condiment and its intended use, such as the pieces of ginger that are meant to be palate cleansers. If you would like to include drinks with your dinner, then you may want to learn about different types of sake or ask your waitress about ordering the best sake to go with your meal.

  • Sharing Your Knowledge

If your date has never tried sushi before but you have, then this is a great chance to share your knowledge of the cuisine. Help your date by explaining what you know about the different types of sushi and by recommending your favorite rolls. However, while sharing your knowledge can be thoughtful, it is not impressive to order for your date or to brag about your sushi knowledge. If you are able to use chopsticks, then you can also teach your date to do so. If neither of you know how to use chopsticks, then simply have fun attempting to use them. However, it is considered rude in Japan to rub your chopsticks together or to fiddle with them, so you should place them next to your plate when you are not using them.

Sushi restaurants are a fun place for a first date, as they are full of new experiences and flavors. Visit our website to learn about the sushi offered at Kabuki or to find the location nearest to you.
